| In Fekjo Cultural & Heritage Park you will find cultural legacy from both pre-historic and historic times. The burial mounds at the site date back to the Viking era, about 900 A.D. In 1923 archeologists, at the wish of the local community, examined 10 of the 20 burial mounds at Fekjo. Finds were made in three of the excavated burial mounds. It is interesting to note that most of the examined burial mounds are women’s graves. Within the Cultural and Heritage Park there are also 7 registered charcoal pits and one smelting furnace for the produktion of iron. There are only a few charcoal pits to be seen today and the smelting work is gone. The charcoal that was burned was either used in the production of iron or in the smithy on the farms. Iron was an important commodity for many mountain settlements at that time. At Fekjo you can vistit a barn and an old storage house for hay, which were still in use until around 1920. There are also modern art installations in the park.
